I was lucky. Lucky that my Grandpa Frank Colvin lived in the same town as me and took lots of pictures in his younger days, lucky that I got to visit him almost every Sunday afternoon all through my childhood, and lucky that I eventually fell into possession of Grandpa's scrapbook and his negatives. Often as not when we'd come to visit, he'd pull out his old scrapbook with pictures of friends, relatives, and fish (yes, LOTS of fish). There was no order to the pictures, so there might be one of his own dad from 1910 next to one of his son in 1944. This made things a bit confusing to me when I was really young, but as I got a handle on the actual chronology of events, things gradually started to make more sense. I have a feeling that much of Grandpa's scrapbook was put together during the winter of 1944-45, when his son Edsel (my dad), was on the front lines in France and Germany at the close of World War II. For more information on some of these people, go to the Colvin Genealogy Home Page. If you have more information about the people and/or places in any of these photographs, feel free to let me know. I would also like to add more photos to this page. If you have access to any other photos of these people, once again please write to me. The purpose of this page and the pictures on it is to share this piece of personal history with my sisters, cousins and other relatives who are scattered throughout Oregon and the rest of the United States. 1938 Stuart X (yes, that's what he went by) lived up the Rogue River at Illahe. He sent postcards with his picture on it to my grandfather at his store requesting fishing supplies. 600x367 25K |
